Modern Greek Course set to be offered at the new Adelaide University in 2026

There has been a longstanding issue in South Australia, whereby the continuation of Modern Greek programs at the tertiary level has remained vulnerable to redundancy. The Hellenic Studies Foundation identified this vulnerability and pursued strategies to ensure Modern Greek maintains a continued presence within the university setting. If there is no Modern Greek offering at university, it undermines the future of Modern Greek within the school curriculum in general.

In March of 2025 the University of South Australia advertised a position for a Modern Greek lecturer to design and run a brand-new course set to go live in 2026. Funded by the Hellenic Studies Foundation, the commencement of this course will coincide with the launch of the new Adelaide University.  This development cements the presence of Modern Greek within an establishment that is committed to offering world class education at the tertiary level, including in the language space.
